History in Action

This page of our website is running on a Mac SE FDHD system. First sold to the general public in 1989 for approximately $3500, we purchased this system on EBay for $15. After upgrading it to MacOS v7.5.5 it was placed into service as a web server for this page alone. Why, you might ask? Because we can. Imagine, a system 20+ years old (ancient in computing time) still able to serve as a web server on the internet. Try that with an 8086 or 8088 Intel based computer (if you can find one).

It's also a great system for playing the old classic games like Crystal Quest, Dark Castle, Strategic Conquest, and Tetris.

Introduced in August 1989, The SE FDHD was an update to the SE. It added a single 1.4 MB floppy drive and standardized the previously optional 40 MB hard drive. The price remained the same.
